Fumari The First Hookah Bar Los Cabos

Recently celebrating its first year, this intriguing café & hookah bar is already turning heads in Cabo. Born in a town that seems to have too much of everything, Fumari offers and experience quite far from ordinary: The Experience of Hookah Smoking.

The hookah or Nargile (as it is known in Turkey) is basically a water pipe used to smoke flavored tobacco also called “Shisha”; which is a blend of fruit molasses and honey, including a mashed mix rose of dried fruit pulp, and 30% fresh tobacco leaves- all in a variety of flavors like mango, apple, strawberry and more. The tobacco used for this blend is of a special kind of Egyptian tobacco that contains no tar and only .5% nicotine. The result is an incredibly different smoking experience enjoyed by smokers and non-smokers alike, since it lacks any flavor of tobacco and provides a cool extremely smooth smoke full of rich and pleasant flavors.

The Hookah became a very important part of the coffee shop culture, finding its popularity in Turkey around the time of Murat the IVth 1623-40. The joy the smokers received form this very simple yet beautiful smoking apparatus was unbelievable. The hookah was so popular and fashionable with the elite ladies of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, that it became the thing to be photographed with a hookah. If you wanted to be the hostess with the mostest the hookah was a must for popular afternoon tea and intellectual gatherings.

There are several reasons why the hookah’s popularity skyrocketed, but probably mainly because of its social aspect. In social gatherings, the passing around of the hose is remarkable in placing the hookah in the center of a “giving and “counter-giving” process, while exchanging words and shared passed times in a playful mode. It certainly contributes to the smoker’s integration in his or her social environment in a brotherly peaceful act of solidarity.

At Fumari this 500-year-old Middle Eastern tradition is embraced into a unique concept. Even if you are not interested in Hookah smoking you can still enjoy Fumari’s delicious gourmet coffee, prepared with a unique blend of locally roasted beans. You can also find a large selection of tea’s and tisanes from around the world, chai lattes, frappes and more. Overlooking down town Cabo San Lucas, Fumari manages to keep its guests far apart from the hustle rustle of the noisy bars and busy streets. Its seducing atmosphere and unique music selection inspire an overwhelming sense of relaxation and utter serenity to whoever dares to visit this charming place. Whether you chose to sit in the cool indoors or fall asleep on a sofa in the star-lit patio, your visit to Fumari will be far from ordinary.

Fumari is located on the main boulevard Lazaro Cardenas Between Puerto Paraiso Shopping mall and Squid Roe across the street from the Cabo Yatch center boat yard. Open Monday thru Saturday from 4 pm.
